Timbercity-IJlst (Houtstad-IJlst): museum on the water
On a unique location on the historic water way De Geeuw at IJlst you can find the museum and carpenters workshop Houtstad-IJlst.We are happy to tell you about the fascinating history of IJlst: in particular the wood industry, timber trade and shipbuilding. Our museum houses among other things the collection of Nooitgedagt: an impressive number of tools, ice-skates and toys.
The museum has a large workshop from 1900. In this carpenters’ workshop activities for young and old are regularly offered: woodworking, education for schools, crafts for children during the holidays, music and story evenings. In addition there, is a Repair Café every third Saturday of the month.
The museum houses the IJlst tourist office and a small shop where you can buy books, wooden toys, posters, old ice-skates and tools of Nooitgedagt.
